What is a CPA?
A CPA is a certified public accountant, but what does that mean? A CPA is a state certified accounting professional that has both a high level of training and commitment to continuing education within the profession.
Similar to doctors, most CPAs specialize in a few different specialties. Not every CPA is a tax expert, nor does every CPA specialize in business services. Most CPAs are either in public accounting or in the general work world as managers of other accounting professionals.
How to find a CPA
When seeking out a CPA, it is always important to ask them what their specialties are. If they do not specialize in the type of work that you are in need of as a client, they may not be a good fit for you.
Our firm specializes primarily in taxation, business consulting and forensic accounting. As a CPA, we are able to represent businesses and individuals regarding any tax matter with the IRS or other state or local taxing authorities. Unlike attorneys, we are far more familiar with the accounting and proper classification of expenses that triggers most IRS actions.
With business consulting services, we are able to provide assistance with small and medium businesses at every point in their lifecycle. Our guidance covers the initial startup of a business through the accounting, payroll, and external financial controllership roles on through to the windup, sale or merger at the end of the business.
Forensic accounting is generally the determination of the cause of a significant financial event such as theft or embezzlement. Our task is generally to determine what actually happened through thorough research and if possible help recover any missing funds. We also provide consulting services regarding effective financial controls to help prevent these types of events from happening in the future.
